The much-anticipated sequel, Awarapan 2, is now set to release in either May or June 2026. Producer Mukesh Bhatt has clarified that the change in release date is not due to competition with other major films like Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic. Instead, the postponement is linked to the production schedule.
Originally, Awarapan 2, which follows the 2007 action-romance drama starring Emraan Hashmi, was supposed to premiere in April. However, Bhatt explained that the delay was a result of unforeseen circumstances during filming. Emraan Hashmi recently had an accident that required surgery, which means he can’t perform any action scenes for 45 days. Therefore, the action sequences will be filmed later on.
Bhatt emphasized that the decision to shift the release date was purely about ensuring the film’s completion rather than avoiding box office clashes. He mentioned, “I’m not scared of Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic.”
He also noted that only one shooting schedule remains, which is about 20 days of filming in Malaysia. This final segment includes key action scenes and will take place after Hashmi has fully recovered.
The original Awarapan was directed by Mohit Suri and is fondly remembered for its gripping storyline and Hashmi’s compelling performance. For the sequel, he is reuniting with director Nitin Kakkar and writer Bilal Siddiqui, along with co-stars like Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi.
