Shreyanka Patil Draws Inspiration from Jasprit Bumrah During Recovery Journey
Indian all-rounder Shreyanka Patil recently shared how Jasprit Bumrah became a key source of motivation during a challenging period in her career. After suffering multiple injuries post the T20 World Cup last year, including issues with her shins, wrist, and a fractured thumb, Shreyanka faced nearly a year away from the game. This time off forced her to rethink her future in cricket.
Missing the entire Women’s Premier League season was particularly tough for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru player, who had previously earned the Purple Cap when RCB won the title in 2024.
Now on her path to recovery, Shreyanka is preparing for her return as RCB takes on the Mumbai Indians on January 9 in Navi Mumbai. She reached out to Bumrah, who has faced his own battles with injuries, seeking his advice as she tackled the physical and mental hurdles of her comeback.
Shreyanka revealed, “What he told me was that it’s okay to go through tough times. Everyone experiences struggles, especially at a young age. Just embrace it; don’t fight it.” This supportive message gave her a boost as she focused on her return to the field.
Learning from the Best
Shreyanka expressed her eagerness to learn from Bumrah, particularly about death bowling, which is crucial in her role as a bowler under high pressure. Excited to meet him, she said, “I was thrilled to know Bumrah would be at the Center of Excellence. I had a lot of questions ready.”
When they finally got the chance to talk, she was eager to ask him about how he practices his yorkers, especially since she bowls in critical moments too. “He provided some fantastic answers,” Shreyanka explained, highlighting the importance of learning from such a seasoned player.
A Steady Comeback
While recovering, Shreyanka focused on her fitness and training at the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. She made her comeback during the Women’s Caribbean Premier League with the Barbados Royals, showing potential even though she was still shaking off the rust, managing to take one wicket in five games.
Since then, she has made noticeable improvements while playing for Karnataka in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, where she picked up five wickets in eight matches with a solid economy rate of 6.31.
On the international front, Shreyanka has played in three ODIs and 16 T20Is for India, taking 20 wickets with an impressive economy rate of 6.73, proving her reliability as a bowler.
As she prepares for her comeback, Shreyanka is determined to make her mark once again in women’s cricket.
