Eurostar Disruptions: Channel Tunnel Power Outage Halts Services

Eurostar Services to London Suspended Due to Power Issues

Eurostar, the high-speed train service connecting the UK with France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, has temporarily halted all operations to and from London. This decision comes after a significant disruption caused by power supply problems in the Channel Tunnel.

A statement from Eurostar confirmed the suspension, stating, “Services to and from London are currently suspended until further notice due to overhead power supply issues, along with a failed LeShuttle train.” Customers have been advised to rebook their tickets for a later date, with free exchanges available. The company expressed apologies for the inconvenience and promised to provide updates as the situation evolves.

Travel Delays and Resumption Plans

By early afternoon, Eurotunnel reported that the LeShuttle service began to resume very slowly. Trains were operating in both directions but with substantial delays. Eurostar indicated that it plans to restart its service to London around 6:00 PM GMT, although travelers should expect longer journey times due to the ongoing power issues affecting the channel.

Passengers whose trains were canceled have been advised not to come to the stations, as those services are unlikely to be reinstated. Eurostar is offering compensation options for affected travelers, including free ticket exchanges or e-vouchers valid for a year. Additionally, they are prepared to cover certain costs like hotel stays, taxi fares, and meal expenses for stranded customers.

Advice for Travelers

Earlier in the day, Eurostar advised travelers to delay their journeys due to anticipated delays and cancellations. The UK’s National Rail also echoed this message, warning of issues between London St. Pancras and Paris Nord.

Eurostar clarified that there were no passengers left stranded in the tunnel and reassured the public that the malfunctioning LeShuttle had been successfully removed.

As the situation develops, travelers planning to use these services are encouraged to stay informed and reach out to customer services for assistance.
