Shreyas Iyer is getting closer to returning to the Indian cricket team. He is back in the practice nets and recently reported to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru ahead of the upcoming series against New Zealand, starting November 11. Iyer has been sidelined since he injured his spleen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia earlier this month.
As a result of his injury, Iyer missed the series against South Africa, where Ruturaj Gaikwad filled his spot at No. 4 in the batting order. Shreyas shared a glimpse of his training on Instagram, posting a video of himself practicing at the Cricket Club of India and showing some great shots.
In the video, Iyer was observed wearing protective gear over the area where he was injured during the Australian series, indicating he is taking precautions as he builds up his fitness.
Recently, it was reported that Shreyas is scheduled for another ultrasound scan in mid-December. This scan will help in assessing his recovery progress, after which he will begin his rehabilitation program at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. He had previously undergone an ultrasound near his home, and the results have shown good improvement according to Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, a well-known sports medicine expert.
While Shreyas has been cleared for basic exercises and daily activities, it seems he may not be ready to play in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. His rehabilitation will be prioritized to ensure a full recovery, and he will also need to meet certain criteria before he can participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
