Families Mourn Victims of Bondi Beach Shooting

On Thursday, the families of seven victims from a tragic shooting at Bondi Beach shared emotional tributes, reflecting on the profound loss they experienced.

The attack, which occurred during a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney, Australia, resulted in at least 15 deaths. Authorities have identified the attackers as a father and son, reportedly influenced by ISIS ideology. The father was killed at the scene, while the son was apprehended by police and is facing multiple charges, including 15 counts of murder.

Heartfelt Tributes

Pogany Family

Marika Pogany, 82, who dedicated her time to helping Jewish seniors, was fondly remembered by her family. “Omi,” as she was lovingly called, brought joy to everyone around her. They highlighted her journey from Czechoslovakia to Australia in 1968 and her pride in becoming an Australian citizen in 1972. Her family described her as a person who connected deeply with others through her kindness.

Smith Family

Adam Smyth, 50, a father of four, lost his life while enjoying a peaceful walk at the beach with his wife, Katrina. Their family expressed their heartbreak, sharing that Adam was a generous and caring person. They recalled his love for sports, particularly Liverpool FC.

Gurman Family

Boris, 69, and Sofia Gurman, 61, had planned to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary soon. They bravely confronted one of the assailants, which sadly cost them their lives. Their family shared how they were known for their kindness within their community, with Boris being a retired mechanic and Sofia working at Australia Post.

Elkayam Family

Dan Elkayam, 27, was also among those lost. He was actively playing football during the celebration when the shooting started. His family remembered him as a vibrant person who loved life, travel, and the ocean. They emphasized his gentle nature, encouraging everyone to continue spreading kindness in his memory.

Tetleroyd Family

Boris Tetleroyd was remembered as a beloved family man and talented musician. His family described his gentle spirit and the love he shared with his close ones.

Kleytman Family

The story of Alex Kleytman, an 87-year-old Holocaust survivor, resonated deeply with his family. He was celebrating Hanukkah with his wife, Larisa, when the attack happened. They spoke of his extraordinary resilience and the legacy he leaves behind: a commitment to his faith, love, and family.

As the families grieve, their heartfelt memories remind us of the lives that were cherished and the legacies that will endure.
