Major Arrest in Dubai: Alleged Leader of Kinahan Cartel Captured
In a significant development this week, Daniel Kinahan, a prominent figure linked to one of Ireland’s largest criminal organizations, was arrested in Dubai. This apprehension comes after years of pursuit by law enforcement agencies.
Kinahan, 48, is thought to be the leader of the Kinahan cartel and is facing serious organized crime charges. His arrest was part of a covert operation involving both Irish authorities and officials from the United Arab Emirates.
Reports suggest that Kinahan is expected to face charges in Ireland tied to a violent conflict between the Kinahan cartel and the Hutch gang, which has resulted in 18 deaths since 2015. While Dubai police did not publicly name Kinahan, they confirmed the arrest of an Irish fugitive connected to organized crime in his homeland.
Kinahan had moved from Ireland to Spain, and later to the UAE, following an assassination attempt that claimed the life of his associate, David Byrne. In 2022, the U.S. Treasury Department offered a substantial reward of $5 million for information leading to the capture of Kinahan or a significant disruption of his cartel’s operations.
Irish police, known as An Garda Síochána, stated their commitment to tackling organized crime globally. They highlighted this arrest as an example of successful international cooperation in law enforcement.
The Kinahan cartel is notorious in the European drug scene, reportedly controlling a significant portion of the continent’s cocaine trade. Kinahan also has ties to the boxing industry, having established a management company named MTK Global.
This arrest emphasizes the ongoing efforts to combat international organized crime and restore safety within communities affected by such activities.
