In a groundbreaking development for the entertainment sector, Netflix has announced a major deal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, including its esteemed film and television studios, as well as HBO and HBO Max. This deal, valued at around $82.7 billion, is set to finalize after Warner Bros. Discovery completes its planned separation of its Global Networks division in the third quarter of 2026.

The merger brings together Netflix’s leading streaming service with Warner Bros.’ impressive history of storytelling. Beloved classics such as The Wizard of Oz, Game of Thrones, and Friends will be featured alongside Netflix’s own hit series like Stranger Things, Bridgerton, and Squid Game.

Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, expressed that this partnership will enhance their mission to entertain the world. He emphasized the mix of Warner Bros.’ timeless titles with Netflix’s popular offerings to provide audiences with more of what they enjoy, shaping the next century of storytelling.

Greg Peters, also co-CEO of Netflix, highlighted that acquiring Warner Bros. will not only enrich their library but also boost their business. He noted that with Warner Bros.’ exceptional creative resources, Netflix will broaden its audience reach and continue to strengthen the entertainment industry.

David Zaslav, President and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, remarked that the union of these two storytelling giants will ensure that audiences worldwide can continue enjoying compelling stories for years to come.

Under the new agreement, Netflix will sustain Warner Bros.’ current operations, ensuring that theatrical releases continue as planned. There are also expectations for significant growth in production capabilities in the U.S., along with increased investments in original content over time.

Once the acquisition is finalized, viewers can look forward to a wider variety of programming as Netflix plans to incorporate HBO and HBO Max content into its existing services. Industry experts see this merger as a strategic move that will intensify competition in Hollywood while both companies leverage their strengths during a swiftly changing streaming environment.

Netflix anticipates annual cost savings of $2-3 billion by the third year after the deal, and aims for the merger to positively influence earnings within two years. While both companies’ boards have approved the transaction, it still requires regulatory clearance and shareholder votes.

If all goes according to plan, this collaboration will stand as one of the most significant moments in the entertainment world, merging two powerhouses to create an exceptional content experience for audiences globally.
