Canadian Politician Arrested Over Alleged Threats
A local politician in Canada is facing serious charges after allegedly leaving a threatening voicemail for a fellow political candidate. Ontario Councilor Corinna Traill was arrested on Wednesday by the Peterborough Police Service and is charged with two counts of making threats.
The controversy began in September when Tom Dingwall, a former candidate for mayor, shared on Facebook that Traill had left him a voicemail in August, warning him not to run for mayor. According to Dingwall, the message implied that if he did not withdraw, Traill would come to his home and make violent threats against him and his family.
Dingwall condemned Traill’s actions and called for her resignation, stating that no elected official should intimidate or threaten others to gain political advantage.
In response, Traill took to Facebook to deny the allegations, saying she did not create the voicemail. She claimed that while some parts of the message were her voice, artificial intelligence technology was also involved. At that time, she mentioned her team was investigating the source of the message.
Traill has emphasized her commitment to serving her community over the past decade and said she would continue to advocate for the residents she represents.
After her arrest, Traill was released on her own recognizance and is due in court in January. The police are still looking into the matter.
Authorities have not given further details, and Traill has not made any additional public comments since her arrest.
