India’s Vikramaditya Chaufla Triumphs at Willingdon Indian Racketlon Open
In an exciting showcase of skill and determination, India’s captain Vikramaditya Chaufla emerged victorious at the Willingdon Indian Racketlon Open, navigating a challenging international field to claim the trophy.
Chaufla, a seasoned athlete with several World Championship medals, faced a tough match against fellow Indian player Animesh Kejriwal in the final of the B category over the weekend. The close contest ended with Chaufla winning 21–18, 21–10, 10–21, 19–18.
In the semifinals, Chaufla battled fiercely against Russian veteran Dmitry Dubovenko. This intense match was a true test of endurance, with Chaufla ultimately coming out on top with scores of 9–21, 21–16, 21–16, 21–17.
Racketlon, a sport that combines four racket sports—table tennis, badminton, tennis, and squash—is rapidly gaining popularity.
The tournament, part of an international Super World Tour event, was held alongside the World Tour Finals, which showcased the best eight male and female players in the world.
The Willingdon Sports Club was instrumental in organizing this championship, with support from Ajoy Bhandare and Nikhil Bhandare. Contributions from KK Cheema, president of RISA (the governing body for the sport in India), and Duncan Stahl, head of the sport’s world body, were also crucial to the event’s success.
This victory marks a significant achievement for Chaufla and highlights the growing interest in racketlon in India.
