In November 2025, it was announced that Akshay Kumar will team up with director Anees Bazmee for a remake of the movie Sankranthiki Vasthunam, which originally featured Venkatesh, Aishwarya Rajesh, and Meenakshi Chaudhary. This confirmation came from Sirish of Sri Venkateswara Creations at the recent 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.
During his conversation with Gulte at the festival, Sirish stated that the remake will indeed star Akshay Kumar. The original film was directed by Anil Ravipudi and produced by Dil Raju along with Sirish. Furthermore, Sirish shared that Sri Venkateswara Creations has plans for at least six film releases in 2026.
Additionally, Sirish mentioned an exciting project featuring superstar Salman Khan, which will be directed by Vamshi Paidipally. Vamshi is well-known for directing hits like Munna, Brindavanam, and Maharshi.
Moreover, Sirish confirmed that their production house will also be working on a film starring Pawan Kalyan.
Previously, it was reported that Akshay and Anees were drawn to the story of a man caught between his wife and ex-girlfriend in Sankranthiki Vasthunam. However, to make the film suitable for a Hindi audience, Anees is planning to reimagine the story while retaining its core elements. The script is currently being developed with the intention to start filming in February 2026. The new version will feature about 60% fresh material while keeping 40% of the original story, ensuring that the essence remains intact.
