The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has made a remarkable move by leading a diverse group of Australian film industry leaders to the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), happening now in Panjim, Goa, until November 28, 2025. This marks a new chapter as IFFM initiates expanded collaborations between India and Australia in the film sector.
On November 21, a significant milestone was achieved when IFFM and IFFI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a three-year partnership between the Australian and Indian film industries. This agreement was witnessed by notable figures, including Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece and Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, along with representatives from both nations’ film communities.
Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece highlighted the growing connection between Australia and India, noting that Australia hosts one of the largest Indian communities outside India. He emphasized that this partnership will not only boost the local Indian film sector but also enhance job creation and promote Indian cinema across Australia.
Mitu Bhowmick Lange, the Festival Director of IFFM and Founder of Mind Blowing Films, expressed excitement about this transformative moment for both countries’ screen industries. She shared that these partnerships embody a mutual commitment to collaboration and creative growth, enriching opportunities for filmmakers, students, producers, and storytellers.
This initiative is one of the most ambitious collaborations between India and Australia in the film landscape.
