The issue surrounding the use of Rajasthani rapper Rapperiya Baalam’s song “Shoorveer” in the movie “Mirzapur: The Movie” has been clarified. Trouper Records, the label behind the song, confirmed that they had officially licensed it to Excel Entertainment for the film’s use.
This confirmation comes after Rapperiya Baalam raised concerns about how the song was included in a scene featuring gangsters. The rapper claimed that “Shoorveer,” which he wrote as a tribute to Maharana Pratap, was used without his permission or proper credit.
In response to the growing questions about the song’s copyright, Trouper Records made it clear that everything was above board. They congratulated the film’s team, effectively ending the debate about the song’s licensing status.
Rapperiya Baalam had expressed his disappointment on social media after the film’s release on September 4. He questioned why his permission was not sought for using his song, stating, “Today, my heart is broken. Some may wonder why. After all, my song is in Mirzapur. But the team didn’t ask me for permission. Who gave them the right?”
He also expressed concern over the context in which the song was featured. “This song is dedicated to Maharana Pratap ji. We are using this song to glorify the villains in the movie. Is this right?” he asked.
The rapper mentioned that he would have welcomed collaboration if the film’s team had approached him. “If they had asked, ‘Rapperiya bhai, we want to use your song,’ I would have shared ten ideas. But using the song without permission is not right,” he added.
With Trouper Records’ statement confirming official licensing to Excel Entertainment, this matter has been resolved.
