Delhi HC Questions Discrepancies in Sunjay Kapur’s Will Despite Priya Sachdev’s Defence: Bollywood Update

The legal battle over the Will of the late businessman Sunjay Kapur has intensified at the Delhi High Court. During the hearings on November 21, Priya Kapur’s legal team faced serious questions regarding multiple errors and inconsistencies in the document.

For the second day in a row, the court probed the defense about basic mistakes found in the Will. These include misspelled names, incorrect genders, inaccurate addresses, a selective list of beneficiaries, and notably, the absence of an asset inventory. Priya’s lawyers reiterated their previous explanations but failed to present any new evidence indicating that Sunjay had ever seen or approved the Will.

In a prior session, lawyer Rajiv Nayar had defended the inaccuracies by suggesting that the Will may have utilized sections from Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur’s, Will as a template. The court questioned the logic behind a wealthy individual relying on a family document while missing critical details about his own children and assets.

Friday’s proceedings further highlighted inconsistencies. The defense could not clarify why Rani Kapur’s Will was notarized while Sunjay’s, which involved a much larger estate, was not. No emails or messages supporting Sunjay’s involvement with the Will have been produced, and the court noted that the document seemed to originate from a device unrelated to him.

Another complication arose when the defense tried to link two different issues: the children’s expenses stemming from their divorce agreement and a claimed benefit of Rs 2,000 crore from the RK Family Trust. While Priya’s team suggested these were interchangeable, court records indicated that the divorce payments were mandated obligations and currently reside with the estate. Despite claims of significant trust benefits, none have been reportedly received by the children.

The court also revisited concerns raised in the previous hearing, including delayed disclosure of the Will, efforts to obtain signatures before sharing, and the ongoing factual discrepancies. Priya’s counsel struggled to address these issues satisfactorily.

Throughout the hearings, the bench observed a clear pattern: the defense has not resolved the document’s errors, has not demonstrated Sunjay Kapur’s involvement, and continues to mix up regular payments with trust assets.
