Producers of 120 Bahadur to Acknowledge Soldiers in Final Credits
The producers of the film 120 Bahadur have announced that they will honor and list all 120 soldiers from the Kumaon regiment who bravely fought in the 1962 Battle of Rezang La in the film’s end credits.
During a recent court hearing in the Delhi High Court, the legal representatives for the film conveyed this commitment. They emphasized the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by these soldiers, particularly those from the Ahir (Yadav) community, in both theatrical releases and streaming platforms. This assurance came as a response to a public interest litigation filed by the Sanyukt Ahir Regiment Morcha, which requested recognition of the Ahir (Yadav) heroes in the film.
Concerns have been raised regarding the way the film portrays historic events. The petition argued that out of the 120 soldiers, 114 made the ultimate sacrifice, and 113 of them were from the Ahir (Yadav) community. Critics have claimed that the film misrepresents history by focusing mainly on Major Shaitan Singh, who is fictionalized as Major Bhati and played by Farhan Akhtar. As a result, the petitioners not only sought factual corrections but also requested a title change to “120 Vir Ahir,” demanding that the names of all soldiers and an appropriate disclaimer be included.
The court recognized the film’s production timeline, as it is scheduled for release on November 21. Thus, it chose not to mandate a title change but upheld the decision to include the names of all soldiers in the credits, ensuring their contributions are adequately acknowledged.
This decision has been met with support, as it shows respect for the sacrifices made by these brave men and reinforces the importance of their legacy in Indian history.
