Cunha Links Brazil Call-Ups to Manchester United’s Strong Performance
Matheus Cunha believes his regular selection for the Brazilian national team is due to Manchester United’s improved form. Since joining the club last summer, Cunha has become an important player under manager Ruben Amorim, which has contributed to the team’s recent success.
The 26-year-old forward has made four appearances for Brazil since Carlo Ancelotti took over as coach. Speaking to reporters, Cunha expressed that proving himself at the club level has been crucial for earning his spot on the national team. He praised Ancelotti’s clear direction, noting that players are well aware of their roles.
“Manchester United is a club that should always be among the best,” Cunha shared. “I’m thankful to be part of a team that’s performing well. To make it to the national team, it’s important to consistently show your value at the club.”
Cunha remarked on the current phase of the team, saying, “This new cycle feels different. Even with many players coming in and out, there’s a clear direction, and everyone knows our goals.”
He also highlighted his versatility, which he believes has helped secure his place in the national squad, as he can play both as a forward and in an attacking midfield role. “Knowing that the manager trusts me to play in different positions is significant,” he stated. “I feel responsible to deliver and prove I’m ready, no matter where I’m placed.”
Reflecting on Qatar Snub
Cunha was not chosen for the Brazilian team that participated in the 2022 Qatar World Cup. He was visibly emotional upon hearing the news, with a video of his reaction going viral. The experience taught him valuable lessons about handling setbacks. “Every moment in life is an opportunity to grow,” he said. “Not being selected for Qatar was hard, but it helped me learn to deal with disappointments. That frustration has motivated me to improve.”
Looking ahead, Brazil is set to face Senegal and Tunisia in friendly matches on November 15 and 19, respectively.
