Jemimah Rodrigues Brings Humor to WBBL Debut After Historic Win for India
India’s Jemimah Rodrigues recently had a charming moment during her first match of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season. While on air, she joked about her uncertain status regarding entering Australia after her remarkable performance in the Women’s World Cup, which saw India defeat the reigning champions.
In the semi-final, Jemimah played a crucial role at No. 3, guiding India to a historic chase of 339 runs. Her steady presence with captain Harmanpreet Kaur helped achieve one of the most significant victories in women’s cricket. This win marked Australia’s first World Cup loss since 2017, when Harmanpreet’s unforgettable innings had knocked them out of that tournament.
During the 2025 World Cup, Jemimah once again shone brightly, showcasing her ability to stay calm under pressure as she led India to success against the Australians. Interestingly, earlier in the group stage, India had faced defeat against Australia, where Alyssa Healy scored a century for the hosts.
On her WBBL debut, Jemimah’s humor enchanted fans during a broadcast, as she playfully expressed her concerns about crossing the border. “I was not sure if Australia will allow me to cross the border after the semi-finals,” she laughed.
However, she quickly emphasized the significance of India’s triumph for women’s cricket worldwide. “Honestly, everyone has been so warm and welcoming. There’s so much joy for the growth of women’s cricket. We know it’s going to change the game significantly, not just in India but across the globe,” Jemimah shared.
Though her WBBL campaign started quietly with just six runs in a match against the Melbourne Renegades, her spirits remain high as she aims to make a strong impact in the league moving forward.
