Kayla Mueller’s Parents Appeal to Trump for Action on Syria’s New Leader Regarding Their Daughter’s Remains

Mueller Family Appeals to President for Closure in Kayla’s Case

The parents of Kayla Mueller, an American aid worker tragically killed by ISIS, have penned a heartfelt letter to President Donald Trump. In their message, they urge him to use his upcoming meeting with Syria’s interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, to help bring their daughter’s remains home after almost a decade.

This emotional letter was shared just days before al-Sharaa’s first visit to Washington since the fall of the Assad regime. The Muellers view this meeting as a vital chance to end a difficult chapter in Syria’s ongoing conflict.

“Ten long years have passed since our daughter’s body found its resting place, unmarked and unknown, somewhere in Syria’s hills,” the letter states. “Kayla’s body has not been returned to us; her story remains incomplete.”

Kayla, just 26 years old, was known for her humanitarian work. She was taken by ISIS in 2013 while aiding Syrian refugees and was held captive until her death in 2015. Her body was never found.

In their letter, the Muellers mentioned President Trump’s decision in 2019 to launch an operation that led to the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. They expressed gratitude for his efforts, claiming that he delivered “justice against unspeakable evil.”

The Muellers also noted changes in the political landscape in Syria. With the Assad regime now gone, they see an opportunity for renewed efforts to locate missing Americans. They praised Congressman Abe Hamadeh from Arizona for his personal pursuit of Kayla’s return.

“I vowed to bring her home,” Hamadeh stated. “Kayla was killed trying to bring light to the darkest corners of the earth. Her spirit refused to break, and I will not give up on bringing her home.”

The family described the meeting between Trump and al-Sharaa as a crucial moment for U.S. foreign policy and their own journey towards closure. They concluded with a hopeful plea: “Bringing Kayla’s body home will inspire hope across Syria. It is a chance to show that America never abandons its own. One more push could bring Kayla home.”
