Brief: Israeli Hostage Remains Transferred by Red Cross

Hamas has returned another coffin containing the remains of an Israeli hostage to the Red Cross, which will subsequently hand it over to Israeli authorities, according to the Israeli military.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed this transfer, stating the remains will be taken into Israel for a military ceremony to be presided over by a military rabbi. Following this, the National Center of Forensic Medicine will identify the remains, and the family of the hostage will be informed.

Earlier, Hamas announced they had discovered the body of an Israeli soldier who had been a hostage in Gaza. They stated the body was located in Shejaia, a neighborhood of Gaza City still under Israeli control, after permission was granted for access to the area by Israel for Hamas and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

This event follows the recent return of three Israeli hostages’ bodies, including that of American Omer Neutra.

As part of a ceasefire agreement, Hamas has committed to handing over the remains of 28 deceased hostages. In exchange, Israel is set to release the bodies of 360 Palestinian militants who died during the ongoing conflict.

Before this announcement, Hamas had already delivered the remains of 20 hostages, leaving eight yet to be returned.
