Shah Rukh Khan and the Knight Riders Group recently celebrated a major achievement in the world of cricket with the opening of the Knight Riders Cricket Ground in Los Angeles. This venue was the site of its first Major League Cricket (MLC) match, where the Los Angeles Knight Riders faced off against the Washington Freedom. This event represents a crucial step in bringing cricket into the spotlight in the United States.
The new stadium stands out as the first international cricket ground established by a global franchise, demonstrating the Knight Riders Group’s dedication to enhancing the sport through top-notch facilities. Built to international standards, this ground includes eight wickets on the main pitch and features high-quality playing dimensions along with six tall floodlight towers. The construction involved moving over 32,000 metric tons of soil to create a world-class space aimed at providing an exceptional experience for both players and fans.
Shah Rukh Khan, who co-owns the Knight Riders Group, expressed his excitement about this milestone. He remarked, “What began as a dream has now come true. Introducing cricket, the second-most popular sport globally, to Los Angeles is a significant moment for us all. Our partnership with Fairplex aims to create much more than just a cricket venue; it’s about building a community space that celebrates togetherness, energy, and entertainment.”
He added that this venue will serve not only for sports but also as a hub for family enjoyment and lasting memories. “We hope this venue will become a home for cricket in Los Angeles and inspire future generations of players and fans,” he said.
Venky Mysore, the CEO of Knight Riders Sports, also shared his thoughts, stating that the Knight Riders Cricket Ground, LA, is more than just a stadium; it’s a vision for the future of cricket. He emphasized the importance of having world-class infrastructure to support the growth of the game, aiming to create a space where players and fans can thrive.
To make the occasion more memorable, NBA champion Ron Artest, known as Metta World Peace, bowled the ceremonial first ball at the inaugural MLC match, symbolizing a growing connection between cricket and American sports.
The Knight Riders Cricket Ground will host MLC matches from July 1 to July 5, contributing to the expanding presence of cricket in the United States and supporting the Knight Riders Group’s ambition to make the sport more accessible to a wider audience.
