Netflix Launches ‘Operation Safed Sagar’ at Indian Air Force Marathon

In a proud showcase of India’s spirit, Netflix recently revealed its highly anticipated series, Operation Safed Sagar, during the inaugural Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon 2025 in New Delhi. The series, which highlights the crucial role of the Indian Air Force in the Kargil War, is created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Kushal Srivastava, with direction by Oni Sen. The cast includes notable actors such as Siddharth, Jimmy Shergill, Abhay Verma, Mihir Ahuja, Taaruk Raina, and Arnav Bhasin.

The marathon, held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, was a gathering of current and former Air Force personnel, dignitaries, and thousands of enthusiastic civilians, all united in their pride for the Indian military. Amidst a lively atmosphere filled with patriotism, Netflix India’s Vice President of Content, Monika Shergill, alongside Series Head Tanya Bami, unveiled a teaser for what could be Netflix’s biggest Indian series in 2026.

Produced by Matchbox Shots and Feel Good Films with support from the Indian Air Force, Operation Safed Sagar delves into a lesser-known aspect of the Kargil War. The narrative follows IAF pilots who ventured into challenging missions in defense of their country. The series promises an authentic portrayal, featuring real MiG aircraft and IAF personnel filmed at various operational bases.

Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh expressed his delight over the participation of 12,000 people in the marathon, remarking, “This event was significant as it resonated with the air battle of Kargil, where the Indian Air Force showcased exceptional professionalism.”

Monika Shergill emphasized the emotional core of the series, stating, “Operation Safed Sagar represents more than just combat; it’s about the bravery, camaraderie, and love for our nation shown by those who protect us. We are grateful to the Indian Air Force for their trust and partnership in bringing this inspiring story to life.”

Sanjay Routray, Co-founder at Matchbox Shots, shared, “This series is about courage and transformation, illustrating the bravery of pilots facing daunting challenges. With unprecedented access to real IAF bases and the support of the Indian Air Force, we aim to honor those who displayed exceptional valor.”

The creative team behind the series also expressed excitement about the project’s authenticity and emotional depth, highlighting the collaboration with Netflix and the Air Force.

Operation Safed Sagar is set to stream on Netflix in 2026, marking a significant milestone in storytelling related to Indian military history.
