Michael Clarke Backs Virat Kohli Ahead of Final ODI
Virat Kohli may have had a tough start in the ongoing ODI series against Australia, facing two consecutive ducks in Perth and Adelaide. However, former Australian captain Michael Clarke believes that Kohli can turn things around and finish as the top run-scorer in the upcoming final ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
On the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, Clarke expressed his confidence in Kohli, despite his recent struggles. While some question whether this is the end of an era for the cricket star, Clarke maintains that Kohli has the talent to shine in the series decider.
Clarke stated, “I’m picking Virat to be the leading run-scorer in this match. Even with his two ducks, I believe he can come back strong.” He also mentioned that Josh Hazlewood is likely to be a key wicket-taker for Australia.
Clarke made a bold prediction for the match, saying he expects India to win, finishing the series 2-1 in their favor. He noted, “India will want to end on a positive note, especially with T20 games coming up soon. It will be important for their confidence.”
Despite Kohli’s recent performance, with only 12 balls faced and no runs scored in the first two ODIs, Clarke’s optimism remains. Critics have pointed out some technical issues and a lack of intensity from Kohli lately. His past record at the SCG is also concerning, as he has played seven matches there, scoring just 146 runs with an average of 24.33, including only one half-century.
With Australia having already secured the series with victories in the first two matches, they are expected to field a strong team, including Mitchell Starc alongside Josh Hazlewood.
The third ODI presents India with an opportunity to redeem themselves and for Kohli to find his rhythm again. Meanwhile, Australia aims to wrap up their campaign on a high note. Fans can look forward to a match filled with strategy and excitement as both teams prepare for upcoming T20 matches.
