Zelenskyy Talks with Trump on War and Energy Needs
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Sunday that he has held discussions with former President Donald Trump for the second time in two days. Zelenskyy described their conversations as “very productive,” focusing on Ukraine’s military situation and energy challenges amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy highlighted that their talks covered various important issues, including strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and military capabilities. He mentioned that they also addressed details about Ukraine’s energy sector, though he did not go into specifics.
Zelenskyy stated, “President Trump is well informed about everything that is happening. We agreed to continue our dialogue, and our teams are preparing for this.”
These discussions come as Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine, including drone and missile strikes that have resulted in injuries and blackouts in Kyiv. Tragically, a child was killed in a separate attack in southeastern Ukraine.
Zelenskyy Open to Elections in Ceasefire Situation
Late Saturday into early Sunday, Russian forces targeted Ukraine’s power grid, aiming to disrupt the country’s energy supplies ahead of winter. This attack follows a pattern of assaults in previous winters and coincides with Moscow’s concerns about the potential U.S. provision of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy warned Kremlin leaders to “know where the bomb shelters are,” sending a stark message amid the ongoing hostilities.
Recently, Trump has shown increased support for Ukraine, reportedly allowing the use of U.S. military weapons in deeper attacks against Russia. He’s expressed that Ukraine should be able to reclaim its territories.
In an exclusive interview, Zelenskyy shared optimism about Trump’s recent success in negotiating a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict, hoping that a similar approach could bring peace in Ukraine as well.
“I think this success in Israel sends us a signal of hope that with the right pressure, President Trump can influence [Russian President Vladimir] Putin to end his war in Ukraine,” he said.
This ongoing dialogue reflects both leaders’ commitment to addressing the challenges facing Ukraine amidst the conflict.
