Indian Parliamentary Delegation Engages with Diaspora in New York

New York, October 11 (ANI): A group of Indian lawmakers, led by Lok Sabha MP and BJP leader PP Chaudhary, connected with members of the Indian community in New York City on Friday.

The meeting aimed to strengthen ties with the Indian American population and saw participation from various MPs, including Captain Brijesh Chowta, Nishikant Dubey, Ujjwal Deorao Nikam, S Phangnon Konyak, Dr. Medha Vishram Kulkarni, Poonam Ben Maadam, Vamsi Krishna Gaddam, Vivek Tankha, Sribharat Mathukumilli, Rajeev Rai, and N K Premachandran.

The delegation arrived in the city on October 7 as part of India’s representation at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This trip, organized from October 8 to 14, includes 15 MPs from different political parties, all under the leadership of PP Chaudhary, who also chairs the Joint Parliamentary Committee on One Nation One Election.

An official statement highlighted that the Non-Official Delegation allows MPs to participate in UN sessions, engage with India’s Permanent Mission, and voice India’s democratic perspectives on global issues. This initiative exemplifies India’s expanding global presence and commitment to parliamentary diplomacy.

Rajeev Rai, an MP from the Samajwadi Party, emphasized that the “unofficial” delegation includes members from various parties, ensuring a well-rounded representation of India’s parliamentary diversity.

During the UNGA, PP Chaudhary made a significant statement, specifically addressing Pakistan’s record on human rights and governance. He rejected Pakistan’s claims regarding Jammu and Kashmir, affirming that it is an essential part of India. He criticized Pakistan for exploiting UN platforms for political gain while facing challenges at home, including claims of election rigging, suppression of dissent, and issues within its own military governance.

Chaudhary also reinforced that India’s Constitution, inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, supports a framework that helps every citizen maximize their potential.
