India Falls Short of Asia Cup 2025 Trophy to Mohsin Naqvi but Celebrates Like Champions

India Celebrates Asia Cup Victory Despite Trophy Controversy

On Sunday, September 28, India celebrated an outstanding win against Pakistan in the Asia Cup final. Although their moment with the trophy was interrupted by a controversy, the team’s spirit remained unbroken.

The trophy became part of an unnecessary drama when Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, took it away after India refused to accept it from him. Their strong stance stemmed from recent tensions and a terror attack in Pahalgam, which made a handshake or an acceptance from Naqvi impossible. This was a man who had previously made provocative gestures towards the Indian team, making it clear why they wouldn’t accept the award from him.

Despite the delay caused by Naqvi’s actions, the Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, took to the stage to celebrate with their fans who waited patiently. The absence of the trophy didn’t dampen their excitement; their joy shone through as they embraced their victory.

Suryakumar even did an energetic dance move, reminiscent of former captain Rohit Sharma’s celebration from the T20 World Cup the previous year. The crowd cheered loudly as the players celebrated, dancing to Bollywood hits, showing that their happiness couldn’t be taken away.

The Trophy Tussle

What truly happened on that day? India made it clear they wouldn’t accept the trophy from Naqvi, the same person who had mocked them during the tournament. They wanted an alternative: to receive the trophy from Khalid Al Zarooni, vice-chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, but Naqvi rejected this request.

In a surprising turn, Naqvi left with the trophy, shocking the Indian captain. “I’ve never seen anything like this in cricket. A champion team denied their trophy? We worked hard for it,” said Suryakumar, expressing his disappointment.

While Suryakumar maintained his cool, fans and officials from the BCCI were understandably upset, feeling that Naqvi had deliberately tried to steal their moment in the spotlight. The BCCI vowed to raise a protest about the incident during the next ICC meeting in November, but their spirit as champions had already spoken volumes.

Championship Spirit

One thing is clear: the Indian team is full of energy and positivity. They connect with fans of all ages, whether through their playful antics or their light-hearted social media posts.

Suryakumar highlighted that the real treasures for him are his teammates and the support staff. “I may have 14 trophies in my dressing room, but my team is my biggest prize,” he mentioned, emphasizing their bond and shared journey in the Asia Cup.

Celebrations continued online, with players sharing light-hearted moments, even poking fun at the trophy situation. Varun Chakravarthy humorously posted a picture waking up next to the cup, showcasing their optimistic spirit.

Naqvi’s attempt to steal India’s thunder only backfired. Rather than diminishing their joy, it provided an extra reason to celebrate, highlighting their resilience and fun-loving nature. The message was clear: when you come for the kings, be prepared for their unwavering spirit.
