Chequers: Trump and Starmer Discuss Palestinian State Recognition

During a meeting in Chequers, U.S. President Donald Trump shared his difference of opinion with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer regarding the recognition of a Palestinian state. This discussion came during Trump’s official visit to the UK on Thursday.

At a press conference, Trump pointed out their disagreement, saying, “I have a disagreement with the Prime Minister on that score. It’s one of our few disagreements, actually.”

Starmer acknowledged their differing views but emphasized their shared goal of achieving peace in the region. He stated, “We absolutely agree on the need for peace and a road map, because the situation in Gaza is intolerable.”

When asked about speculation that he was waiting for Trump to leave before announcing support for a Palestinian state, Starmer clarified, “I made my position clear at the end of July regarding the timing, which has nothing to do with this state visit.”

He added, “I’ve discussed this with the president, as you would expect, considering we are two leaders who respect each other and want to find the best possible solution.”
