A nurse from Henry Ford Health in Detroit, Michigan, has been put on leave after making a troubling comment about the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. This incident follows a trend where several employees have faced consequences for their reactions to his passing, which occurred during an event at a university on September 10.
The nurse’s remark, made in response to news about Kirk’s death, included the phrase, “God, he got the day he deserved.” This led to an internal investigation prompted by the health care provider. A spokesperson stated, “Henry Ford Health is aware of the social media comment, and the team member has been placed on leave while we internally investigate.”
The organization emphasized that the views expressed by the nurse do not align with their values. “We strongly and unequivocally condemn violence in all its forms,” the spokesperson added.
Just last week, another healthcare worker was let go from Riverside Health in Virginia for making similarly inappropriate comments related to Kirk’s death. This individual, an anesthesiologist, posted on social media remarks deemed highly inappropriate and supportive of violence against public figures. The hospital quickly took action, terminating her contract with North American Partners in Anesthesia.
The statement from Riverside Health noted, “We took prompt action, and by mid-morning on September 11, her contract was terminated. The individual is no longer affiliated with Riverside Health.”
As these events unfold, discussions around the responsibilities of public figures and healthcare workers continue to draw attention.
