Nippon Kinzoku Strengthens Eco-Friendly Offerings with New Carbon Steel Product
Nippon Kinzoku Co., Ltd., based in Minato-ku, Tokyo, is set to enhance its sales of “SFA Finish,” a new type of carbon steel and carbon tool steel. This product marks the fifth addition to its environmentally-friendly “Eco-Product” series, aimed at improving workability through a special softening process.
The SFA (Super Full Annealing) Finish is a unique product that softens the material without changing its chemical makeup. By optimizing the manufacturing conditions, this process enhances workability and minimizes springback. This means not only smoother processing but also better yield rates, which can lead to reduced energy use and a lower environmental footprint.
Certified as an “Eco-Product” under Nippon Kinzoku’s own standards, SFA Finish supports the company’s sustainable manufacturing goals, including the ambitious aim of achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
The introduction of this product aligns with Nippon Kinzoku’s 11th Business Plan, entitled “Nippon Kinzoku 2030.” Focusing on “Near Net Performance,” the company aims to meet customer demands effectively. Looking ahead, Nippon Kinzoku plans to boost sales, with a particular focus on the automotive industry.
Features and Benefits of SFA Finish
-
Chemical Composition: The properties of this product are enhanced without altering its chemical makeup, thanks to optimized cold rolling conditions.
-
Mechanical Properties: It provides better ductility and is slightly softer compared to standard annealed products.
-
Processability: With low springback, it maintains a stable shape after processing.
-
Metal Structure: The spheroidal carbides are approximately 1.0 to 1.5 μm in size, similar to those found in typical annealed finishes.
-
Properties After Heat Treatment: The material’s microstructure and hardness after quenching and tempering match those of general-purpose materials.
Nippon Kinzoku continues to innovate and promote sustainable practices in the manufacturing sector, shaping a greener future for the industry.
