Granollers and Zeballos Triumph at US Open Men’s Doubles

Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos celebrated a great victory at the US Open, defeating Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski to claim the men’s doubles title. The thrilling final took place on September 6, where the Spanish-Argentine duo fought back after losing the first set, finishing the match with scores of 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5 at the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Earlier this year, Granollers and Zeballos made headlines by winning their first Grand Slam together at the 2025 French Open, where they also overcame Salisbury and Skupski in the final, winning 6-0, 6-7 (5), 7-5. They had also defeated the same pair at Wimbledon.

After the match, Zeballos expressed his emotions, saying, “It was an amazing battle. It’s tough when there’s a winner and a loser. The guys did great and deserved to win too. I can’t believe we just won the U.S. Open. The crowd here is fantastic, which makes a big difference.”

A Remarkable Comeback

The match didn’t start well for Granollers and Zeballos. They lost the first set after making two critical double faults, giving the British duo an easy break. However, the Spanish-Argentine team showed their determination in the second set. They saved three break points at 3-3 and turned things around by winning five straight points to keep their hopes alive.

As the second set progressed, it went to a tiebreak where Salisbury and Skupski faltered, making a double fault and a net error, allowing Granollers and Zeballos to level the match.

In the final set, both teams held their serves until the British duo created three match points. Granollers and Zeballos, showing incredible resolve, saved all of them and managed to hold their serve, reigniting their championship aspirations.

With the momentum shifting in their favor, they broke Salisbury and Skupski in the next game. Although they couldn’t finish on their first title opportunity, they remained focused and clinched the win on their second chance, marking a remarkable comeback.

For Salisbury and Skupski, this loss was bittersweet as they were close to making history. Partnering only since the start of the season, they were on the verge of becoming the first all-British team to win the US Open men’s doubles title since 1903.

Conclusion

Granollers and Zeballos’ victory is a testament to their perseverance and teamwork. This win not only adds to their list of achievements but also showcases the thrilling nature of doubles tennis, where anything can happen till the very last serve.
