Sabalenka Advances at Wimbledon with Strong Win Over Ostapenko

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka impressed tennis fans with a solid performance as she defeated Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 6-4 in the third round at Wimbledon on Friday. The Belarusian player displayed remarkable composure, effectively matching Ostapenko’s powerful baseline shots while taking advantage of her opponent’s errors at crucial points.

With this victory, Sabalenka has once again reached the second week of Wimbledon and has shown that she won’t let her rivals take control of the match. This win sets the stage for an exciting showdown with four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.

Wimbledon 2026 Day 5 Highlights

Naomi Osaka made headlines herself by reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time, cruising past Daria Kasatkina with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Their upcoming match is a highly anticipated rematch, as they previously faced each other in a thrilling match at the French Open earlier this year.

As Sabalenka aims for her fifth Grand Slam title and her first at Wimbledon, she seems to be growing more comfortable on grass, hoping to shake off the disappointment of three consecutive semi-final losses here.

Sinner Shines in Title Defense

Defending champion Jannik Sinner also made it to the fourth round with a convincing win over American Jenson Brooksby, wrapping up the match 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. After facing tough competition in his earlier matches, the world No. 1 delivered one of his best performances yet, hitting the ball cleanly and commanding the game with his strong serves.

Although Brooksby tried to throw Sinner off his game with a mix of strategies, Sinner remained unflappable throughout the two-hour match. He showcased his growing confidence by employing serve-and-volley tactics, winning every point he approached the net during the second set.

Even when Sinner faced a momentary hiccup while serving for the match in the third set, he quickly regained control to secure another straight-sets win. After the match, Sinner described the victory as “a small step forward” as he builds momentum in his title defense.

Next up for Sinner is Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki in the Round of 16, where he is expected to continue his strong performance and advance to the quarter-finals.
