Jannik Sinner Advances in Thrilling Match at US Open
Jannik Sinner faced a tough challenge in his third-round match against Denis Shapovalov at the US Open. On Saturday, August 30, the Italian player took three hours and 12 minutes to secure a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 victory at the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Despite not playing his best, Sinner managed to break Shapovalov’s serve six times, even though he lost his own serve three times. After dropping the first set, the World No. 1 bounced back strongly in the second set. The third set started with him trailing 0-3, but he showed great determination, coming back to take a 4-3 lead and ultimately winning the set.
Once he regained control, Sinner finished the match decisively, not only moving into the fourth round but also extending his unbeaten streak in Grand Slam matches on hard courts to 24.
Looking ahead, Sinner will face the winner of the match between Alexander Bublik and Tommy Paul.
Naomi Osaka Moves On to Fourth Round
Naomi Osaka, seeded 23rd, also had a noteworthy performance, defeating 15th seed Daria Kasatkina with a score of 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 at Louis Armstrong Stadium, also on August 30. Osaka had a blazing start, winning the first set with ease and managing just eight points lost, showcasing her skill with very few errors.
Kasatkina made a strong comeback in the second set, breaking Osaka’s serve four times to win 6-4. However, in the deciding set, Osaka regained her focus and won 6-3, moving on to the Round of 16 for the first time in a major since her Australian Open victory in 2021.
Next, Osaka is set to face third seed and defending champion Coco Gauff, creating one of the most anticipated matchups in the tournament. On her upcoming match, Osaka expressed her feelings, saying, “Can somebody come to the match and cheer for me because it’s tough playing an American here. I hope you guys adopted me as well. I see her as a little sister.”
Gauff has a 3-2 advantage in their previous encounters, but Osaka has won their only US Open match back in 2019.
Stay tuned for more updates as the tournament progresses!
