India Takes Strong Lead in Thomas Cup Finals Against Canada

In a thrilling start to the Thomas Cup Finals, India secured an impressive 4-1 advantage over Canada during their opening Group match on Friday. The spotlight was on Ayush Shetty, the runner-up from the Badminton Asia Championships, as well as the dynamic doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who delivered remarkable performances.

The day kicked off with World No. 4 Lakshya Sen facing off against Canada’s World No. 13, Victor Lai. Despite a valiant effort, Sen fell short, losing the match with scores of 18-21, 21-19, 21-10, giving Canada an early lead.

However, the tide turned when the doubles team of Satwik and Chirag took to the court. They showcased their skills in a commanding match, defeating Jonathan Bing Tsan Lai and Kevin Lee with a convincing score of 21-10, 21-11, leveling the contest for India.

With this strong display, India is well on its way to advancing in the tournament.
