Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Exclusion from Asia Cup Squad Sparks Reactions
In a surprising move, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been left out of the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. This decision has drawn attention, especially since a video of India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has resurfaced online. In the clip, Gambhir passionately advocates for Jaiswal’s inclusion in the national T20I team.
Jaiswal was a key player in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory, though his last appearance in T20 cricket was against Sri Lanka in July 2024. The young batter has impressed fans and cricket experts alike with his performance for the Rajasthan Royals since 2023. Over 23 T20I matches, he has scored 723 runs at an average of 36.15 and a striking rate of 164.31, including one hundred and five fifties. Yet, despite his achievements, Shubman Gill has been chosen over him as one of the openers.
In the viral video from a 2023 interview, Gambhir emphasized the need for Jaiswal in the team, stating, “He has excelled not just in the IPL but has also scored double and triple hundreds in domestic cricket. His performances in the IPL are just the icing on the cake. He deserves a chance in all formats of the game.”
As for Shubman Gill, he has recently returned to the T20I setup after a commendable Test debut as captain in England. He, along with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, has been named in the squad, but his role remains uncertain since both Samson and Abhishek have been performing well at the top.
Despite Jaiswal’s remarkable potential, the selectors have clearly leaned towards Gill. Fans are eager to see how the upcoming matches unfold, especially with key players locked in competing for top spots in the batting order.
