Gal Gadot Visits Hostages Square to Support Families in Tel Aviv

Actress Gal Gadot made a heartfelt return to her native Israel on Sunday, joining grieving families at Hostages Square in Tel Aviv, a key site for those advocating for the return of their loved ones held captive by Hamas.

As a former soldier in the Israel Defense Forces and the star of “Wonder Woman,” Gadot aimed to show solidarity with families who are enduring the pain of having loved ones abducted by Hamas since the devastating attack on October 7, 2023. Her visit aligned with “Israel on Hold” day, a nationwide protest led by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, urging the government to focus on negotiations for the remaining hostages, of whom almost 50 are still unaccounted for. Reports suggest that nearly 20 of them may still be alive.

Many families are anxious that the government’s recent decision to intensify military actions in Gaza, including a proposed operation in Gaza City, could put their relatives in greater peril instead of helping them to be freed.

During her visit, Gadot was seen embracing families, including Lishay Miran-Lavi, whose husband, Omri, was taken from their home in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, and Einav Zangauker, whose son, Matan, was kidnapped along with his girlfriend, Ilana. Einav has become a leading advocate among families of the hostages.

Gadot’s emotional interactions with the families highlighted her desire to connect with them, as their stories have become crucial to the national movement advocating for the hostages. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum expressed their gratitude, stating they were deeply moved by her visit. They appreciated that she took the time to listen to families and survivors, offering them a rare moment of understanding and comfort.

The forum mentioned that multiple events took place throughout the country as part of this day of awareness. They emphasized that the support shown to the families reassures them that they are not alone in their struggle, with Gadot’s presence offering hope and strength as they continue to fight for the return of all 50 hostages.

Despite being a beloved cultural figure in Israel, Gadot has faced criticism internationally for her support of her home country. She recently commented in an interview that she believes pressure within Hollywood to criticize Israel has affected her career, particularly the box-office results of her latest film, “Snow White.” Nevertheless, she remains committed to bringing attention to the issues facing Israel and its people.
