Ukrainian President’s Warning on Russian Intentions Ahead of Trump-Putin Meeting
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed concerns about Russia’s current stance on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He stated that there are “no signs” indicating that Russia is ready to bring the war to an end. This statement comes just days before a scheduled meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
On social media platform X, Zelenskyy emphasized the need for an end to the war and urged that collective pressure should be put on Russia to achieve lasting peace. He believes that the experiences of Ukraine and its allies can help guard against any misleading actions from Russia. He stated, “At present, there is no sign that the Russians are preparing to end the war.”
Zelenskyy stressed the importance of strong collaboration among Ukraine, the United States, Europe, and other nations that desire peace, suggesting that unified efforts can persuade Russia to consider peace talks.
Trump and Putin are slated to meet in Anchorage on Friday, where Trump has referred to the gathering as a “feel-out meeting.” His primary aim will be to find out if a ceasefire in Ukraine is a realistic possibility. When asked by reporters about his expectations for the meeting, Trump was vague but mentioned he might gauge the situation within the first couple of minutes.
“I’m not going to make a deal. It’s not just my decision,” Trump stated. He added that he hopes to see a ceasefire and a beneficial agreement for both Russia and Ukraine, noting, “It takes two to tango.”
In a previous message on X, Zelenskyy mentioned that the path to peace must be determined with Ukraine’s input, underscoring the necessity for a coordinated approach toward achieving genuine peace, which includes a ceasefire and the end of the war.
As the situation unfolds, many are watching closely to see what outcomes may arise from the forthcoming discussions between Trump and Putin.
