The Irish embassy in India has expressed strong condemnation of the recent violent attacks against Indian citizens in Ireland. They emphasized that racism and xenophobia do not belong in society. The embassy announced that Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs will meet with representatives from the Indian community on August 11.

In an official statement, the embassy said, “We are deeply disturbed by these attacks. They go against the values of equality and human dignity that are important to Ireland.” They highlighted that the actions of a few individuals do not reflect the attitudes of the Irish people as a whole.

The embassy noted that over 100,000 Indians live in Ireland, contributing to the country’s diverse culture. They stated, “The Indian community plays an essential role in strengthening the ties between our nations.” Authorities in Ireland are actively engaged in investigating these incidents, and the embassy is in close contact with the Indian mission in Dublin.

Previously, on August 1, the Indian Embassy in Ireland had urged Indian nationals to be cautious in light of a rise in physical assaults against Indians. Approximately 10,000 Indian students currently study in various Irish educational institutions, making Ireland a popular destination for higher education.

Recent events have seen several assaults against Indians. One alarming incident involved a six-year-old girl from Kerala, who faced racial insults from peers while playing near her home in Waterford City. Another incident involved a senior data scientist who was brutally attacked by a group of teenagers while returning home from dinner, resulting in serious injuries.

These unfortunate events highlight ongoing issues with racism and provide a reminder of the importance of mutual respect and understanding in diverse societies.
