Four Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners are set to play a significant role in the upcoming season of ‘The Hundred’ as they partner with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). These owners, including GMR, Sun TV Network Limited, RPSG Group, and Reliance Group, will take over operational control by October 1, 2025.

In a press release, the ECB shared that these partnerships are expected to bring in “hundreds of millions of pounds” aimed at enhancing the game as a whole. Two additional partners, including Reliance Group’s investment in the Oval Invincibles, are also expected to finalize their deals at a later date.

Recently, these IPL owners acquired stakes in various teams within The Hundred. Notably, the owners of Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are also involved in South Africa’s T20 league, SA20.

The ECB noted, “This is a landmark achievement for The Hundred, with six strategic partnerships now confirmed,” emphasizing that two more deals are on track for future completion.

As for stakes in the teams, RPSG Group will hold a 70% stake in Manchester Originals, while Sun TV Network Limited will fully own the Northern Superchargers. The GMR Group, which co-owns Delhi Capitals, will have a 49% stake in Southern Brave. Other partnerships include Tech Titans and Knighthead Capital Management, both with 49% stakes in London Spirit and Birmingham Phoenix, respectively.

Once all deals are finalized, the ECB aims to distribute over 500 million pounds to professional counties and grassroots cricket. This involves a specific commitment of 50 million pounds dedicated to nurturing cricket at the grassroots level.

ECB chairman Richard Thompson remarked on the growing global interest in cricket, saying, “The potential for the sport is immense.” The ECB will continue to maintain ownership of The Hundred itself, ensuring control over regulations and other vital issues that affect the broader game.

A new board will be established, featuring ECB representatives and team investors, to guide the strategic direction and commercial growth of The Hundred.

This new initiative marks a significant step forward for cricket in the UK, combining expertise from various sectors to enhance the sport’s growth and engagement across all levels.
