India’s batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, has announced that wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will be ready to bat on the final day of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester. Pant sustained a toe injury on Day 1 and had to leave the field immediately.
Demonstrating remarkable resilience, Pant returned to the crease on Day 2 despite the pain, scoring a solid 54 runs off 75 balls, including three fours and two sixes. With India in need of his batting skills again on Day 5, Kotak confirmed that Pant will be back to contribute to the team’s efforts.
“I think he will bat tomorrow,” Kotak said during a press conference after Day 4.
Kotak also emphasized the importance of staying focused and playing each ball as it comes. He advised the players to avoid unnecessary risks: “Don’t be pre-planned. Play to the merit of the ball. If you are established at the crease, minimize risks. The only way you might get out is due to a bad bounce or a fantastic delivery.”
At the end of Day 4, India was at 174 for 2, with KL Rahul and Shubman Gill forming an impressive partnership, adding 174 runs for the third wicket after losing two quick wickets in the first over. However, India still trails by 137 runs and must put in a strong performance on Day 5 to avoid defeat and keep the series alive. Pant’s presence will be crucial as India aims to bat through the day.
