Paris and London: Rivals in the Tech Scene
Recent claims that Paris has outpaced London in the tech industry are being challenged by a prominent UK investor. Ed Lascelles from AlbionVC expressed skepticism regarding a May report from Dealroom, which suggested that Paris had taken the lead as a startup hub.
The Dealroom report indicated that between 2017 and 2024, Paris experienced a remarkable 5.3 times growth in the value of its startups. In comparison, London’s growth was noted at 4.2 times. This led some to believe that Paris might be surpassing London as Europe’s leading tech city.
However, Lascelles argues that these assertions may be overstated. His comments come in the wake of significant tech events in both cities: London Tech Week and VivaTech. During these events, political leaders from both nations highlighted their achievements and called for further growth in the tech sector.
The competition remains fierce, and while both cities have their strengths, the debate over which is the ultimate tech hub continues.
