Ram Kapoor’s Comments Spark Controversy Over Weight
Actor Ram Kapoor is facing significant backlash on social media after remarks he made in a recent interview have gone viral. In a chat with Humans of Bombay, Kapoor compared the success of overweight men and women in the entertainment industry, specifically referencing actress and politician Smriti Irani.
Kapoor stated, “She was my size as a woman and probably more successful than me. It’s just that she left earlier. When she started Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, she was huge. In the first and last year of the show, she’s as big as I am. But equally successful.” He acknowledged the difficulties that overweight actors face, yet pointed out Irani’s accomplishments in the industry.
The statements quickly generated a storm of criticism online, particularly on Reddit. Many users felt that Kapoor’s focus on Irani’s weight overshadowed her talent and contributions. One user remarked, “Did he explicitly take her name? It seems like he wants more attention for his weight loss.” Another commenter added, “Weight loss has made his mind go cuckoo.”
Some users highlighted the challenges Irani faced when balancing her career and family, noting that she had two children while working on the show and struggled to find time to lose weight. Another user pointed out, “Ram Kapoor should remember how thin she was considering they starred opposite each other.”
The debate intensified, with comments like, “Ram Kapoor wants to be cancelled so bad,” drawing attention to the growing criticism. This incident follows a previous controversy where Kapoor was criticized for making light of sexual assault during promotional events for his web series Mistry, resulting in his removal from promotional activities.
As social media continues to scrutinize Kapoor’s remarks, the actor has yet to issue a response.
