Egypt Enhances Foreign Diplomacy to Boost Health Initiatives
Egypt is taking steps to align its foreign diplomacy with its national health goals, aiming to boost international cooperation in the health sector. Recently, Badr Abdelatty, the Foreign Minister and Minister of Immigration, met with Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health. The focus was on how Egypt’s embassies around the world can support important health objectives.
During their meeting, which was part of a series aimed at briefing newly appointed ambassadors, they discussed how embassies could attract foreign investment, build international partnerships, and promote knowledge sharing—especially in pharmaceutical manufacturing. This area is becoming a strong focus for Egypt as it positions itself as a key player in the region.
Abdelatty pointed out that diplomacy plays a crucial role in elevating Egypt as a center for the pharmaceutical industry, which will enhance access to markets in Africa, Central Asia, and parts of Europe.
Minister Abdel Ghaffar shared updates on Egypt’s health reforms, highlighting major initiatives like the fight against hepatitis C and malaria. These efforts have received global praise. He also talked about the ongoing expansion of healthcare facilities and the increase in public funds aimed at making medical services accessible to everyone in Egypt.
A significant part of their conversation revolved around the Universal Health Insurance Project, which started in 2019 and aims to give all Egyptians access to comprehensive healthcare. Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the need for continued international support, both technical and financial, to help move this program forward and enhance Egypt’s contributions to global health efforts.
