A significant fire broke out early Monday morning on the set of the hit TV show Anupamaa, which stars Rupali Ganguly. The fire started at about 5 AM at Film City in Mumbai and caused substantial damage before the fire brigade could bring it under control after several hours. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident.
Images from news agency PTI showed the extent of the destruction. The blaze began before the day’s filming was set to start at around 7 AM. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received a fire alert at around 6 AM, and officials are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
Following the incident, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) issued a statement criticizing the ongoing negligence regarding fire safety measures on film sets. They have called for the immediate suspension of the Managing Director of Film City and the Labour Commissioner of Mumbai, accusing them of allowing production houses to ignore necessary safety protocols.
AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta has urged Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to initiate a high-level judicial probe into the matter. In a separate post, AICWA expressed concerns over the possibility of the fire being deliberately set for insurance purposes, urging that the investigation examine whether the producers or the network had a role in any potential fraud.
The association has gone even further by asking authorities to file a criminal complaint against the producers, the production company, the broadcasting channel, and the officials from Film City. They’ve also demanded that any production company or channel that fails to adhere to fire safety regulations be banned from operations.
