Shreyas Iyer’s IPL Brilliance Continues Amid Test Snub
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was left out of the Indian Test squad for the upcoming series in England. The selectors opted for the experienced Karun Nair instead, despite Iyer’s impressive recent performances in cricket. However, Iyer remains unfazed by this decision, continuing to shine in the Indian Premier League (IPL). On May 24, he scored his fifth fifty of the season, playing a crucial role in guiding Punjab Kings to victory.
Facing Delhi Capitals in Jaipur, Punjab found themselves in a tough spot after losing early wickets. Iyer, batting at number four, played a stabilizing innings, helping his team aim for a target of over 200 runs. He made 53 runs off 34 balls before getting out in the 18th over, showing particular strength against Delhi’s spinners, who conceded a hefty 77 runs in just eight overs.
Iyer’s journey has been challenging since he last played for the Indian Test team during the series against England in 2024. A back injury sidelined him, leading to his removal from the squad and the loss of his central contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Determined to make a comeback, Iyer focused on regaining his place in the ODI side, where he excelled in the Champions Trophy. His confidence has returned, and he is now showcasing his talent in the IPL with 488 runs in 13 matches and a striking average of 172.44.
