Rohit Sharma Retires from Test Cricket: A Meeting with Maharashtra CM

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently met Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma at his official residence, Varsha, in Mumbai. This meeting was a personal gesture to congratulate Sharma on his retirement from Test cricket, marking an impressive 14-year career from 2011 to 2025.

During their conversation, Fadnavis praised Sharma for his dedication and the significant impact he had on the sport. The Chief Minister shared a couple of photographs from their meeting on social media, expressing his admiration.

Fadnavis wrote, “It was a pleasure to meet and interact with Rohit Sharma at Varsha. I wish him all the best in his retirement from Test cricket and continued success in his future endeavors!”

On May 7, the 38-year-old cricketer announced his decision to step away from Test matches. Having already retired from T20Is last year, Rohit continues to play ODIs for India. He shared his thoughts on Instagram, saying, "Hello everyone. I would like to announce that I am retiring from Test cricket. It has been an absolute honor to represent my country. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will still represent India in ODIs.”

Rohit faced challenges during India’s recent tour of Australia, managing only 36 runs across three Tests and even opted out of the final Test.

In his 67 Test matches, Rohit scored 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, including 12 centuries and 18 fifties. His highest score of 212 was achieved against South Africa in 2019 at the JSCA International Cricket Complex in Ranchi.

With Rohit’s retirement, India now faces the challenge of selecting a new captain for their upcoming five-match Test series against England.
