The "Curse" is Finally Broken for Harry Kane
Harry Kane can finally celebrate his first major title as Bayern Munich clinched the Bundesliga championship. This exciting moment was made possible, in part, thanks to Freiburg, who drew 2-2 with Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday, ensuring Bayern had an unassailable eight-point lead with just two games remaining in the season.
Throughout his career, Kane has faced challenges, often finishing as a runner-up and landing top scorer awards with Tottenham and the England national team. Some fans referred to it as a "curse" that kept him from winning a trophy, despite being recognized as one of the best forwards in the world.
Bayern was on the verge of celebration a day earlier when they were tied 3-2 against Leipzig, but Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen scored an equalizer in the dying moments, delaying Bayern’s title party by a day. Teammate Thomas Müller even playfully reminded Kane on Instagram, “Next week, Harry!”
In the match against Freiburg, Leverkusen seemed to lack urgency, knowing their second-place finish was secure. They showcased only a slim chance to reclaim top honors, hampered further by Bayern’s superior goal difference.
Freiburg took the lead with a goal from Maximilian Eggestein before halftime. An own goal from Piero Hincapie later solidified Freiburg’s control of the match. Leverkusen managed to score through Florian Wirtz in the 82nd minute and soon afterward equalized thanks to Jonathan Tah in stoppage time. However, the results did not impact Bayern, who celebrated their 34th German championship.
In other news, Freiburg’s draw kept them in fourth place, which is vital for Champions League qualification, just ahead of Borussia Dortmund and Leipzig. The top four teams will earn spots in Europe’s prestigious club tournament.
Meanwhile, Holstein Kiel continued their fight against relegation with a 3-1 victory over Augsburg, inching closer to safety. They are now just one point behind Heidenheim, who sit in the relegation playoff position. Kiel’s next matches will be against Freiburg and then Dortmund.
Eintracht Frankfurt also had a match scheduled against Mainz later on Sunday.
