SRH’s IPL 2025 Hopes Fade as Vacation Vibes Prevail

SunRisers Hyderabad faced a tough blow in the Indian Premier League 2025 after their recent loss to Gujarat Titans on May 2. Fresh from a week-long break in the Maldives, the Hyderabad team struggled to find their rhythm and was clearly outmatched at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Entering this match under pressure, SRH displayed a lack of fight for much of the game. Star bowler Mohammed Shami showcased the team’s difficulties, failing to deliver consistent performance and conceding 48 runs in just three overs.

In the early stages, SRH captain Pat Cummins also struggled with the ball, putting his team at a disadvantage. With Shubman Gill performing strongly and the Gujarat top order firing well, it turned into a challenging match for the SunRisers. After the game, Cummins admitted they let the match slip away too easily.

“Our batting in the powerplay wasn’t great. I could have done better, and we probably allowed them an extra 20-30 runs. A few missed catches also hurt our chances. Chasing 200 would have been more manageable,” Cummins said in a post-match interview.

This season has been full of missed chances for SRH. As last year’s runners-up, they have struggled to match their previous level of play, hampered by different pitch conditions and players not performing as expected. What was meant to be a balanced team has been disjointed throughout the season.

Cummins acknowledged the issues with the bowling unit, calling out their tendency to bowl too many loose deliveries. He admitted that, for SRH, this season may effectively be over. Though they are still technically in contention, winning all their remaining matches to reach 14 points seems unlikely.

He hinted at looking forward to the future, stressing the need to maintain a strong core team. “We still have some hope. The core group will be together for the next three years, so there’s plenty to play for,” he concluded.

Following this loss, SRH is second from the bottom in the points table, with only 6 points from 10 matches, narrowly ahead of Chennai Super Kings, who are also struggling this season.
