Nirmal Kapoor, the beloved matriarch of the Kapoor family, passed away today, May 2, 2025, at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. She was in her nineties and had been facing health challenges in recent months, requiring multiple hospital visits.
Nirmal was the widow of late producer Surinder Kapoor and the mother of well-known figures in the film industry, including producer Boney Kapoor and actors Anil and Sanjay Kapoor. She was a source of strength for her family and a cherished personality in the entertainment world. Her death marks a significant moment for the Kapoor family, known for their lasting influence on Indian cinema.
She leaves behind her three sons, Boney, Anil, and Sanjay, along with her daughter and their families. Her grandchildren include popular actors such as Arjun Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Mohit Marwah, Harshvardhan Kapoor, and Shanaya Kapoor, many of whom have followed in her family’s footsteps in show business.
Sandeep Marwah, founder of the Asian Academy of Film & Television (AAFT) in Noida, is her son-in-law. Family, friends, and fans are grieving the loss of a loving mother and grandmother, whose warmth and presence will be greatly missed.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be held privately by the family.
