KL Rahul shone bright against his former team, RCB, as he led Delhi Capitals (DC) to a convincing victory in their IPL 2025 match in Bengaluru. Chasing a target of 164 runs, DC completed the task in just 17.5 overs, sealing the win with six wickets to spare. This victory continues DC’s strong start to the season, leaving RCB to reflect on missed opportunities despite a strong beginning. Rahul contributed significantly with a stellar innings of 93 runs off 53 balls, raising his total to 648 runs in 16 matches against RCB.
Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first. It seemed like a smart decision initially, but Phil Salt had other ideas. He took on Axar Patel early in the powerplay, hitting a six and followed up with a boundary. The crowd erupted when Salt hit Mitchell Starc for three consecutive boundaries, including a no-ball that resulted in another six. However, miscommunication led to Salt getting run out for 37 runs off 17 balls, leaving RCB at 62 runs in just four overs.
Fortunately for DC, bowlers Vipraj Nigam and Mukesh Kumar worked hard to control the innings, with Nigam claiming the wicket of Devdutt Padikkal. A struggling Virat Kohli managed only 22 runs before he too was dismissed, and the momentum shifted in favor of DC. Axar’s wise use of his bowlers made it difficult for RCB to gain any rhythm, culminating in another wicket, that of Liam Livingstone, caught by Mohit Sharma.
Kuldeep Yadav proved to be a game-changer, taking two crucial wickets, including that of Jitesh Sharma and RCB’s captain Rajat Patidar. His impressive figures of 2 for 17 in four overs helped keep RCB to a lower total. Despite a late surge from Tim David, who scored 36 runs, RCB ended their innings at 163 for 7.
The chase for DC got off to a shaky start as they lost their openers early. Faf du Plessis, still affected by an injury, was dismissed trying for a big shot, while Jake Fraser-McGurk also fell attempting a risky shot. Rahul found himself in a tough spot but was fortunate when Patidar missed a chance to dismiss him. However, another wicket fell shortly after as Abishek Porel was out trying to hit across the line.
RCB bowlers tightened their grip, making it hard for Rahul to score freely. Yet, he soon found his rhythm, hitting back-to-back boundaries and even a six to accelerate the run chase. He reached his half-century off 37 balls but was aware that rain could delay the match, prompting him to push the scoring even harder.
In a flurry of aggressive hitting, Rahul took on Josh Hazlewood, scoring 22 runs off one over, closing the gap to just 43 needed in the final 30 balls. Teammate Stubbs supported him well, and the pair added a rapid 100 runs in just 54 deliveries. Rahul struck the winning runs, helping DC achieve their best start to an IPL season.
### RCB Struggles at Home
While RCB has excelled in away games this season, their performance at home raised some eyebrows. Despite key victories in Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai, fans were left disappointed after seeing RCB fail to adapt to the conditions in Bengaluru. Patidar expressed concerns about the team’s ability to read the pitch and adjust their play accordingly, indicating an area that needs improvement.
### DC’s Triumph with Rahul’s Flexibility
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals seem to have a well-rounded squad, particularly in their bowling and batting depth. However, the form of Jake Fraser-McGurk remains a concern, with his total runs standing at just 46 in four matches. Rahul, a versatile player, has proven to be the answer, stepping up in crucial situations and scoring a match-winning 93 runs tonight, reinforcing his role as a key player for DC.
As the season progresses, both teams will be looking to find their footing and make a mark in the competition, with DC showing promising potential powered by Rahul’s winning form.
