Kris Srikkanth’s Advice to CSK: Make Changes for Better Performance
Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has shared his thoughts on how the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) can improve their performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. After a promising start where they defeated rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets, CSK struggled with two successive losses against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
In light of these challenges, Srikkanth is urging CSK management to consider some strategic changes to their lineup. He believes that Devon Conway and Anshul Kamboj should be included in the playing XI, and he has also advised against using Ravichandran Ashwin during the powerplay. Srikkanth emphasized that Ashwin tends to be more effective between the 7th and 18th overs.
On his YouTube channel, Srikkanth stated, “I suggest bringing Conway in for Jamie Overton and adding Kamboj to the lineup. While Ashwin shouldn’t be dropped, he should be held back from bowling in the powerplay. He can really shine between the 7th and 18th overs, especially with Jadeja and Noor Ahmad available to bowl.”
So far this season, Ashwin has taken three wickets in three games, averaging 33 with an economy rate of 9.90. Srikkanth also proposed including Shivam Dube and Andre Siddarth as an impact substitute in the team.
“I would like to see Shivam Dube play in the XI, and bring in Andre Siddarth as an impact player. Mukhesh Chowdhary is another good option; he has performed well for CSK in the past,” Srikkanth added.
CSK faced a tough defeat at home, unable to chase down a target of 197 runs, and they fell short by seven runs against the Rajasthan Royals, who set a target of 183 runs. These performances have raised concerns about CSK’s batting lineup and ideal team composition.
Looking ahead, the five-time champions will face Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 5 at their home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After conceding runs on a spin-friendly pitch in their last match, CSK’s bowlers will be eager to correct their mistakes as they take on a confident Delhi team that has won both of its matches so far this season.
