Actor Vidyut Jammwal has come out in support of comedian Kunal Kamra, who recently found himself in hot water over his humorous remarks about the political climate in Maharashtra. Jammwal took to social media to share his thoughts, quoting the Bhagavad Gita and raising an important point about the outrage directed towards comedians. He pointed out the contrast between the scrutiny faced by Kamra and the lack of backlash against figures like Kamaal R Khan, who is notorious for making derogatory comments about India and women.
In his post, Jammwal included a video that showcased Kamra’s performance as well as some critical past remarks from KRK. He referenced a specific verse from the Bhagavad Gita that encourages warriors to stand firm for what is right. Jammwal emphasized that while Kamra’s comedic expressions are met with strong reactions, individuals who publicly insult the country seem to face little consequence. He questioned whether society prioritizes the rights of politicians over the dignity of the nation and its people.
The post has sparked a wave of support from fellow celebrities. Producer Ektaa R Kapoor praised Jammwal for speaking out, while singer Mansi Scott agreed with his sentiment. Actress Richa Chadha, who has previously taken KRK to court, added her voice to the conversation, asking why more people don’t take similar action.
This situation arose when Kamra performed a parody song at the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai, where he referred to an unnamed politician in a derogatory manner. Although he did not specify names, members of the Shiv Sena felt insulted, interpreting his words as an attack on Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. This led to legal challenges against Kamra and sparked a broader discussion about freedom of speech in the country.
Jammwal’s comments have reignited debates about accountability within the entertainment industry, particularly regarding why some individuals can make inflammatory remarks without facing any backlash, while others are held accountable for their comedic expressions.
