Delhi Capitals Celebrate Victory with Strong Team Spirit
In a recent match on Sunday, March 30, the Delhi Capitals claimed a dominant victory over SunRisers Hyderabad, winning by seven wickets in Visakhapatnam. Wicketkeeper-batter Abhishek Porel shared the positive atmosphere in the dressing room following the impressive win.
Porel highlighted the impact of KL Rahul, who made a significant return to the team after his paternity leave. Despite facing a challenging moment when he dropped debutant Aniket Verma’s catch early in the game, Porel managed to move forward after receiving support from Rahul. Aniket made the most of his chance and scored an impressive 74 runs off just 41 balls, hitting five sixes and six fours. Though Verma’s innings helped SunRisers reach a total of 163, they were eventually all out in 18.4 overs.
After the match, Porel spoke about how KL Rahul encouraged him to focus on his performance after the drop. "KL has always been like an older brother to me. He comforted me when I made the mistake and urged me to concentrate on my batting," Abhishek shared, reflecting on their successful chase of 164 runs in just 16 overs.
The young left-handed batter, who has been with the Delhi Capitals since 2023, contributed 34 runs off 18 balls in a match that included Faf du Plessis’s quick-fire 50 off 27 balls.
Axar Patel: A Fun Yet Focused Leader
Porel also spoke highly of the team’s new captain, Axar Patel, describing him as humorous off the field but determined on it. Under Axar’s leadership, the Capitals have had a strong start to IPL 2025, winning their first two matches. His strategic bowling changes effectively contained the SunRisers’ powerful batting lineup.
"Off the field, Axar always jokes around, but once we’re on the field, he’s incredibly motivated. His captaincy is going really well," Porel noted.
In a smart move, Axar allowed Mitchell Starc to bowl an extra over during the powerplay, which paid off when Starc dismissed his Australian teammate Travis Head for 22 runs. Starc had an outstanding performance, taking his first five-wicket haul in T20 cricket, showing that he has settled in well with his new team.
As the Delhi Capitals continue to build on their success this season, the camaraderie and determination within the team are evident, making them a strong contender in IPL 2025.
